Getting mdaemon to change where it sends mail backed up for a gateway
If mail has has backed up for a gateway and the clients server has changed its IP address, mdaemon will have a “memory” through the rte file of where to send the emails. For more information on routing slip files see http://technicians-blog.kingcomputer.com.au/index.php/editing-mdaemon-rte-files-to-change-endpoint-mail-server-to-send-to
Here are the steps to get the mail to redirect to an IP address of your choosing.
- Move mail from the gateway or retry queue to the holding queue until you adjust the settings so mail stops trying to send
- Go to setup menu/Default Domain / Servers or press F2 then to DNS as shown below

- Edit the MX cache file button bottom left
- Add a new MX record e.g. mydomain.com.au 5 10.45.123.22
- Restart mdaemon
- Copy ONE email from the holding queue to the remote queue in windows explorer
- Click on the process local and remote queues button on the toolbar to process the emails

Go to the Mail/SMTP out tab to view the transaction to make sure the mail has dequeued to the remote server correctly

- Once you have confirmed email sent correctly you can move the rest of the holding queue emails to the remote queue and process the queue to send them.
