Installing Windows 3CX VOIP telephone system with Pennytel – Part 2
Configuring Pennytel as a VOIP provider
After the intial 3CXÂ install see http://technicians-blog.kingcomputer.com.au/index.php/installing-windows-3cx-voip-telephone-system-with-pennytel-part-1/
Highlight VOIP providers and on the toolbar click Add Provider. Fill out the details for your pennytel account as shown. Make sure you have a trunk service from pennytel, otherwise you will only get one call in or out at a time. I set the maximum simultaneous calls to 4 as this is the limitation of the free version of 3CX.Â

In the advanced tab I checked on Support Re-Invite and Support ‘Replace’

Configuring the outbound rules
Then you need to configure outbound rules so the system knows when you intend to use Pennytel to call out.
You can have the system setup so you dial a digit like 0 or 9 to make an outside call. This is a waste of time and so I configured the outbound rules so that if you initiate the call with a 0,1 or 9 (relevant to Sydney NSW Australia) it strips the digit, and then re-adds it.
e.g. if you dial 02 9451 1079, 1300 54 64 74 or 9451 1079 it will dial those numbers.
This does mean that when creating the extensions or groups you cannot use numbers starting with these digits – by default the extensions get created starting from 100.Â

3CX setting up outbound rules
You will see in the rule below Calls starting with 0 have the 1st digit stripped, but then Prepended back on so effectively the original number is dialled.3cx outbound rule

See part 3 for configuring the extensions.
