Windows 7 or Windows 2008 add quicklaunch toolbar

By default Windows 7 and 2008 no longer display the quick launch toolbar. Some users prefer this to the new taskbar method of pinning programs. The problem with pinning is you cannot create distinct shortcuts to particular files, you can only group like files on the program that executes it.

To add the quick launch toolbar back follow these steps :

Right-click on an open area of the taskbar and choose Toolbars \ New Toolbar

Add new toolbar

Browse to the folder %appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

The quick launch toolbar will now be visible. Right click in a blank area and turn off show title and show text if you just wanted to display icons.

If you wanted to show large icons right click go to view -> large icons

Grab the | with the mouse on the left-hand side of the quick launch toolbar and drag it to the left to expand the size of the quick launch to show all your icons.

If you want the quick launch icons to appear on the left near the start button, grab just to the right of the taskbar vertical column near the start button so that the cursor changes to a four way arrow move icon. Now drag the task bar over to the right of the quick launch toolbar and release.
